This is an "important" book, and it appears to be #ownvoices, which I really appreciate. The ending was very uplifting, and the best part of the book!
But I didn't really enjoy reading this. The writing seemed more on the level of a beginning chapter book, it was so clunky and basic, not at all what I expect from a middle grade book. (I will admit that I do not read many middle grade books, so maybe most of them are like this and I've just been lucky enough to read only the great ones - I don't ...more

It's about a transgender 4th grader who finally tells his mom, brother and best friend that he feels like a girl. I don't know what age group this is geared towards. This book got to me so much. I just wanted to hug Melissa and whisk her away to a world where she could be Charlotte all day. I loved that it covered a myriad of reactions and handled things honestly.
This was a good story. I really loved the characters and the plot. I love how she got her chance to shine.
