This novel is the culmination of the "All Souls" Trilogy which began with The Discovery of Witches. It should be read as part of the series and not as a standalone book. Matthew and Diana have recently returned from a time walk to Elizabethan London, where they sought information regarding the Ashmole 782 manuscript, also known as the Book of Life, which describes the origins of the vampires, witches and daemons.

So, so good! I love an interesting, intriguing trilogy with adventure, history and deeply drawn characters where the final book really ties things up and leaves you satisfied, which this did. I can't believe she was a first time writer with Discovery of Witches. I hope she writes a lot more books, because I will definitely read them.

Wow, the details in this book were amazing. I loved the characters and the world and how so many things connected back together. Masterfully written.
What a great ending for a really fun series! completely fun! I am going to miss mathew and diana and marcus and jack and.....
Love. Would like a follow up book with a few of the characters.
