Since this is the tenth and final novel in the Flavia de Luce series, I'm sure that others have read at least one; therefore, I'm not going to say much about the series. Even if this is your first one, there is enough backstory peppered throughout these pages that you would be able to read this independently. You just wouldn't appreciate as much the personality of this precocious 12-year-old chemist and toxicologist and her relationship with the citizens of Bishop's Lacey.

The Flavia de Luce books are always a treat - not so much for the mysteries themselves - but for the intrepid, indefatigable, chemistry-loving, vulnerable pre-teen sleuth, Flavia.
After several devastating losses, young Flavia faces yet another change in the family as her oldest sister, Feely, finally weds and leaves the family home, Buckshaw. But when a human finger is found hidden in the wedding cake, Flavia and Dogger, the estate gardener and Flavia's mentor and friend, launch the first inves ...more

Didn't like this one quite as much as the last. Surprisingly missing Flavia's sisters! But Dogger and Flavia make a good team and Undine is a fun addition in this one. Maybe it was me being dense, but I was a little frustrated with the way the mystery was wrapped up. I felt a little more explanation of some of the clues would have been helpful. I always get a little annoyed when they throw in "madness" as a motive for something towards the end.

I enjoyed this latest, and hopefully not last, installment of the Flavia series. I like Flavia and Dogger working together, and while Undine still has Cousin Oliver vibes she's less annoying. I do hope that there is going to be more from Flavia and Dogger, this felt less like the last book in a series and more like a spin-off jumping off point.
