Right from the start I was loving this book. I am not sure how to describe what I liked so much, except that it felt very real and yet was not boring.
Doesn't really sound like my usual kind of book, but ... it's Kingsolver, AND it's set in Vineland, NJ, so how can I resist?!

Barbara, Barbara, Barbara. There’s no denying Kingsolver’s gift with the written word. However! I’ve always seen her penchant to get preachy as the Achilles heel to her writing. There always comes a time when one character or another climbs upon the proverbial soap box and beats the reader over the head with an Ayn Rand-level lecture.
