I'm not sure what I was expecting when I started reading this book, but it wasn't what I got. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I found Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows to be quite compelling, once I settled into what it actually was, and learned to adjust between the narrative passages and the erotic stories within the story. I really enjoyed this book. I read it for my book club, and I anticipate that we will have lots of different things to discuss. But, for some odd reason, I totally did not expect there would actually be erotic stories in the book. Silly me.

I went into this thinking it was going to be a little bit Bollywood, a little bit Joy Luck Club, and a little bit The Help. What I got was some of that with a twist of mafia and murder mystery added in.

Seriously, this book had a lot going on, and it was that eclectic mix of genres that brought my interest in this book down a few notches. There was just too much and it honestly started to feel a little ridiculous by the end.

This was a satisfying read that taught me something about Punjabi customs and Sikhs. Nikki and the other women are all trying to find their own way in a culture that prioritizes men and their wants and needs. Oh, and there definitely are erotic stories here, those Punjabi widows had rich imaginations!
