This was a second go-round for me. When I read Beowulf in school, I was not enamored with the experience of dealing with Anglo-Saxon poetry.
This time, reading it in Healey's translation, using both the bilingual edition for authenticity and the illustrated edition for wonderfully enriching photographs, my experience was different -- a far more positive one.
I also heard parts of Healey's recording of his translated version, and so can recommend that, also. ...more
