Yeah ... so adventure stories (even nonfiction ones) aren’t really my jam, I think. Had to switch from ebook to audio halfway through to finish in time for book club. I did learn a lot about how deadly the Amazon is!

Clean readers: only a small handful of swear words, though there are some sickening parts ... I started to tell my thirteen-year-old son about certain flesh-eating critters described in this book and he dry-heaved. 😆

This is an interesting story that combines history and investigative journalism in a tale of Amazon exploration and obsession. The author traces the many voyages of Percy Fawcett in the South American jungle, detailing his obsession with a mythical city that he refers to as "Z". Much of what I enjoyed about this book was the factual information about the Amazon rain forest and it's intriguing flora and fauna. ...more

I am in awe of writers that track down letters, journals, military records and people all over the world and then put together a coherent and engaging book. David Grann has done this in this story of Percy Fawcett, the great Amazonian explorer who disappeared in the Amazon rain forest with his son, Jack and another man in 1925.

The book includes some interesting photos. It could have used some maps.
