I originally read this at university. It was probably time to revisit it, having read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer much more recently, and as I remembered, it's much less of a kid's book. Bits of it are great...but bits of it really seemed to drag in a way I don't recall them doing when I was younger.

I read this back in sophomore English -- or maybe I just read the first half of it, because I could not at all remember much of anything after Huck and Jim "ran by Cairo." I remember struggling with this book the first time around, and at first, this go-around was not much better. My problem was that I was reading in short spurts between tending the kids.
