It was better than I expected. I didn't read it in 2020 when Sword & Laser did, but it was a 4 star book for Jenny, and SFF was reading it as their BOM for July and the ebook was available on overdrive, so I read it, but I don't think I need to read the other two books in the series.

I'm struggling to understand what other readers have found in this novel. Perhaps they read it as children and it is the nostalgia? I'm baffled. The writing is odd, the characters are flat and a story about magic felt anything but magical. Overall I found it extremely boring and without the charm that other readers have apparently discovered within its pages.
