What Members Thought
This is an enjoyably strange fairytale, and I especially like how the young "elder sister" is in the form of an old woman throughout most of the book. The dynamic between her and wizard Howl, an infuriating young "slither-outer" of a man, was great. I did find the plot a bit hard to follow at times, and I'm afraid I might prefer the film a bit in that respect. Still, this feels like a modern classic.

Howl's Moving Castle is a charming book that covers a lot of my favorite story elements - the parodying of fairy tale tropes, the wry British sense of humor, the clever integration of a magical world and the real one, the unapologetically flawed characters.
