I am often impressed by Cormac McCarthy's sparse writing style, which can be simple, but other times, it is lyrical at poignant moments. The Road explores the bond between father and son within a post-apocalyptic world where Death haunts them at every turn of the corner. Much like McCarthy's other books, this is one of his harsher versions of a boy's "growing up" stories.

There are definitely better post-apocalyptic novels out there. This one just didn't really do anything for me.
