I read this for a Book Club, which I would bug during witching hours to exclaim over how delightfully creepy this was and how this lapsed Catholic will go find a cross necklace and have an excuse to not look at people in the eye. It reminded me a lot of Midnight Mass, my favorite TV series in Flanaverse. The author's foreword and afterword added to the good reading experience. Ben Mears, a writer and the novel's protagonist, returns to his childhood home, Jerusalem's Lot, to write his new book, and, hopefully to exorcise the demons of his past. However, these demons will be resensitized when evil in the form of an ancient, but traditional, vampire moves into the small community and turns the citizenry into the subservient undead like the pod people from the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The only thing that stands in his way is Mears and small group of acquaintances.
