Man, was this book ever strange! I loved the first half of it, and I was so excited because this has been on my to-read shelf at home forever and I have probably been putting it off for a year.

But somewhere about halfway through I got totally turned off, around the time when Nutmeg and Cinnamon got introduced. This is the most confusing, beautifully written, utterly dream-like book I've ever read and I get a little too excited when I see others reading it. I think Murakami's writing style gets a little easier to cope with after reading a few more of his novels, so I really should revisit the copy I stole from my friend when she moved back to Florida... ...more

Like many of Murakami's books they start out great and after about 400 pages you realize they are going nowhere. You could stop half-way through and accomplish just as much as you would if you finished it.
