I was torn between giving this a 3.5 or a 4 but I eventually gave in and gave this 4 stars. This was a memoir, bordering on self-help as it was teeming with life lessons which was presented in an entertaining manner. I really only know Amy from her role in Parks and Recreation, which I love, but there is something about her which is very likeable, indeed the blurb on the book says everyone wants to be her friend. It’s definitely a feeling I got from her more personal chapters, which are more essays on life in general than specifics about her career.

I really enjoyed Amy's banter and her "I don't care what you think of me" voice in Yes Please. We get a behind the scenes look into her days with the Upright Citizens' Brigade, Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation and how comedy was an outlet for her creativity and her passion. We also get some cute stories about her boys and her journey as a mother, her feelings while going through a divorce as well as glimpses into her childhood in Mass.
I Love when I'm reading a book and I run across

If you read/listen to this book, skip the introduction -- it's one long complaint about how hard it was to write this book (which she mentions again and again in the book itself), and it made me feel negative about the book before it even began. The audio has guest narrators, which is great. But even though I'm an Amy Poehler fan, I prefer her on TV. This book was an awkward mix of sketch-like humor and an attempt to portray herself and her life, and it didn't work well for me. ...more
