I thought I had read this Miss Marple before, but maybe I hadn't. I would have thought the heroine (Gwenda) being both a New Zealander and having the same name as one of my childhood friends would have stuck in my mind if so.

Well I accidentally read this out of order, my own fault as I forgot what month I was in, doh !
Anyway that said, I don't think it mattered much. It's funny of all the Miss Marple books I've read so far for this challenge, this is the story I have remembered the most, and to such an extent that within about 50 pages I had remembered who was the guilty party.

Not my favorite by far of Christie's books, or even Miss Marple's, but this was still an engaging read. The young couple trying to figure out the past, including a potential murder, were charming together. I always wish Miss Marple had a greater presence, but then she's an entirely different character than Poirot.

I really liked this one. It is kind of interesting that I got to read it after all the others in Miss Marple series. It think it is the best one
Miss Jane Marple has many talents. In this case she shows a capacity to reflect and reconstruct acts retroactively. The plot is interesting. One has to think carefully to discover the murder. Agatha tells the story in a direct manner. Miss Marple comes in the scene in a politely way and gains the confidence of the persons involved. A good reading that shows some of Miss Marple's techniques.
