Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale is a dystopian that takes place in the near future. The theocracy of Gilead has overthrown the US government. Widespread infertility lead to the creation of handmaids, women who are still fertile and whose sole purpose is to reproduce. This story is a series of diary entries by offred, a Handmaid (belonging to Fred) who is trying to resist.
