Annie and Rew live a very different life compared to their peers. Their "Gran" takes care of them in a run down house in the middle of the country. Another book on the Newbery watch list. This is a quick read (we listened to the audio version on a road trip), which I enjoyed (as did my kids).
When an escaped prisoner takes two children and their grandmother hostage, many family skeletons are revealed.
