It's hard to review a book like this. I was completely invested emotionally by the end of this book. I cried like I haven't cried in years. There is beauty in this dark book, even healing. But I'm not sure who I recommend it to. I think anyone who has a dying parent may find it too hard emotionally. I was disappointed by the story of Conor's suppressed anger and sad life. The layout was beautifully designed but the short work portraying his psychological trouble did not appeal to me.

I really hate to gush over a book because when someone reads a gushing review they are less likely to love the book because their expectations are too high. But. I. Just. Can't. Help. It!

Well written book.
What a beautiful, heartbreaking story. The grief is heavy throughout the book, but the illustrations add an eeriness while the telling of the monster's stories add a touch of humor. It's a complex book, but that is what makes it so brilliant. Highly highly highly recommended.
