This is an extremely powerful story, written in verse, about a young teen struggling with anorexia. This is not easy to read, but I'm glad I did. Jake battles the voices in his head telling him he shouldn't eat and just keeps getting thinner. Add on bullying at school, his life is not easy. John Schu, the author and a librarian, did an amazing job with this! He also, helpfully includes resources at the end of the book.

This is an important book, even though it is pretty painful to read. I am still pondering the target audience for it. It is OK for YA, but I am not sure about tween. It might need some adult support.
This one is a hard one. Eating disorders are often a hidden challenge. Jake, a young teen, is dealing with anorexia nervosa. Jake's voice seems authentic and it should as the book is somewhat autobiographical. Maybe someone living with an eating disorder would read this and know they are not alone in their challenges. But, not sure what audience this will find. Maybe adults, family members or friends of someone undergoing in-house treatment would find it worthwhile. But, the poetry isn't very go
