Kind of like a junior version of Stargirl. The tiny town of Fawn Creek doesn't often get newcomers. So when a beautiful new girl exotically named Orchid shows up in the 7th grade class one day, everyone is entranced by her. Orchid has lived all over the world and she's kind to everyone. Good middle grade story about friendship and individuality in a small town in Louisiana. Gave me Stargirl vibes a little bit. I think it would be a great discussion for 6th/7th graders.

Not my favorite from this author. It was about all the things you don't like about middle school- not fitting in, mean kids, outcasts, even dreaded school dances. It just wasn't a great story ...more

Another great one by Erin Entrada Kelly. The main characters are in 7th grade. A good story about being kind, what it's like to be bullied, how things could be different if people stood up to the mean girl, growing up in a family where it's not ok to be gay, being new at school.

Orchid acted in a very very emotional intelligent way for a 7th grader. It was great for the other kids to see that a person could be genuinely nice, not like Renny. ...more
