I loved this book! Fantasy is not my favorite, but this one, I couldn't put down. I love, Amari! She is an amazing person and I can't wait to read more about her adventures. This is sort of like a kids version of Men In Black. The kids had to try out to be part of a special investigations team that kept a secret hidden world safe. Great characters, adventure, kids solving kid problems like dealing with being accepted for who you are, don't judge people at face value - lots of good messaging in this book. This was such a fun, propulsive read and just what I needed to get out of my reading slump. I thought Amari was such a strong, smart protagonist who you were rooting for the whole way. B.B. Alston has created a believable magical world that was completely immersive. There were lots of wonderful supporting characters as well and I am looking forward to revisiting them all in the sequel.
