Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow! This author is amazing! I loved Absolutely Almost so much that I didn't think it could be topped, but this one is close. It's been 8 months since Trent hit the hockey puck that accidentally killed one of the other kids in his class. He assumes that everyone in their small town hates him - but no one can hate him more than he hates himself for what he has done. Powerful!! The reader was able to totally feel the anger/fear/grief/hope that welled up inside Trent, middle son, who told his own story. Trent accidentally caused the death of a hockey teammate when the puck he hit, hit the boy in the chest. As Trent moves into middle school, he hopes for a new start, but his reputation in this small town follows him. I really enjoyed this book . I think a lot of kids can identify with Trent. He has feelings that he doesn't quite know how to handle, stemming from a tragic event and his parents divorce. I kept waiting for him to figure out his part in his issues and was happy that in the end his issues where still there but he learned to deal better with his feelings and that service and caring for others was the vehicle that got him there. ...more
