I really can't separate this book from the series (my favorite science fiction series). Although the Miles books are my favorites, I love this introduction to the universe and to his parents. The first time I read it, I think what drew me in was that it is way more character driven than most science fiction that I've read. And I also liked the concepts of honor and duty.

This is my second Vorkosigan series book (I'm reading them in internal chronology order) and very much like the two main characters. By the end of the book it seems everything is set up for a long series with these two characters, at least I hope - they've very much worked their way under my skin and I will definitely be reading more of the series. ...more
