This my was first taste of Lois McMaster Bujold and I'm happy that we will be reading lots of her books over the coming months.
Shards of Honour grabbed my interest right away and never let go. I found myself caring about both Cordelia and Aral. At first glimpse, Cordelia is a simpler character and Aral more multi-layered and complex, but she proved to have more depth as the story progressed.

This got four stars because I did 'really like it'. I can see why Bujold went on to write much better novels. I don't mean that in a condescending way but a complimentary one. The voice is vivid, the pace fast and the story quite believeable. But mainly the characters shine. They came across as very real, particularly Aral and I liked the romance even though I see a few other reviewers didn't. Fun easy read, with some cool futuristic ideas. Looking forward to the rest of the omnibus.
