I bought this while I waited for my copy of Locklands to arrive via Amazon on a gamble after seeing that it had few (but high) reviews. I was very surprised by this title and the pacing of it. It had very strong sci-fi concepts that reminded me of Children of Time, had military SF elements, and also touched on the currently ubiquitous "fear of AI" theme that has been appearing in many modern SF titles. It was really hard to stay engaged as it was really slow going for most of the book. I finally picked up right at the end and everything became a lot clearer but I don't think I will be continuing on with the series. The overall storyline has good potential and it could be a great series but I feel like the first book could have been explained a lot better to tie things together a little closer to the beginning of the book so you could stay more engaged.
