4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can’t believe I’m giving this 4 starts but you know what, I’m not super happy. I waited patiently to start this since it was going to be the BOTM for February for a challenge I’m doing. I’d already waiting over a year, what was another week? Right? I took my time reading it whereas I burned through Iron Flame like it was a race. While it still had the same feel for the most part as the other books, it also drug a little at times for me.

I just want to preface this review by screaming: XADENNN!!!! I absolutely love him. He is absolutely the best book boyfriend of all time.

I thought Onyx Storm was pretty good. I really enjoyed it for the most part. I struggled to pick it up at times though because the pacing felt so weird. It was much better than Iron Flame though. One of my biggest worries was that Violet would ...more

I actually really did like this one. It was definitely a lot better than Iron Flame was, but still not as good as Fourth Wing. I listened to the audiobook, and honestly felt like I would have rather just read the book. Don’t get me wrong, the narrator did a great job, but I didn’t always love the pacing. It would be a great pace during non-action times and then speed up extremely fast during the action or intense scenes. Honestly it pains me to give this less than 4 stars because I love this author in general; but like.....I was so BOOOORED through very large parts of this. Like, what even happened here? (answer: not a whole lot) This book is entirely too long and there are 2 more books coming in this series???? Will we finally get some answers? Will it be before the last 10 pages of the series?

I loved the book.
I had a different experience than most, since i finished re-reading Iron Flame the night before. So it was a continuous story for me.
The beginning set a new normal for ALL the characters, similar to how we experienced at the beginning of each book, so no spoilers there.
Violet and Xaden are one of my favorite book couples.
Tairn and Andarna are still my favorite dragons, and their comments are still some of the best in the book.

I was hoping this would be the last book in this series. It should have been. It is very long and nothing happens that would progress the plot.

There are battles that are copy of the previous battles, love scenes that are a copy of previous love scenes, characters that are copy of current characters.

Violet is looking for allies to fight Venins, cure for Xaden and Andarna’s family. No story twists, no character archs, nothing.

It could have been told in one chapter, or less.
