3.5 Stars - but rounded up cause Wrath

So I can see why people had issues with this final one. It definitely went in a completely different direction from where I thought it was going. Some of the branches I liked, but some felt messy and not needed. It almost seemed as if Maniscalco had too many ideas in her head and was scrambling to get them all in.

So what I liked:
-Wrath and Emilia's relationship. The entire series has been founded on their love and I fully enjoyed seeing all of the differen 3.5 Stars - but rounded up cause Wrath

Some of the branches I liked, but some felt messy and not needed. It almost seemed as if Maniscalco had too many ideas in her head and was scrambling to get them all in.

So what I liked:
-Wrath and Emilia's relationship. The entire series has been founded on their love and I fully enjoyed seeing all of the different aspects of it. Wrath demanded an equal and would accept nothing less. Emilia lived up to that and more.
-the brothers. We got to see more of the brothers interacting together and I just wish we had a ton more. Especially Sloth - we barely scraped the surface of who he is. Honestly, can we just get a book for each brother?
-The writing. I love Maniscalco's writing and have since Stalking Jack the Ripper. She creates amazing worlds and atmospheres. I cannot wait to read more from her. And I heard she's doing more in this world. Yay!

What I had issues with:
- Vittoria. Were we supposed to root for her or not? Because she did some horrible things and was horrible to Emilia, so I find it hard to just be like, meh she's fine.
-the random murder mystery. With so much already going on in this world, was a side murder mystery needed? It didn't really add anything to the plot, except to show how petty Greed is. Makes me wonder if it's hinting at more
- unsolved endings. There were a few threads that never really got resolved here and I'm kind of wondering what happens next?
-The sex. don't get me wrong, I don't mind smut. But this is targeted as YA and it most definitely is not. There's sex or some form of it in almost every chapter and it felt very excessive. Especially with so much plot to work with, we didn't need all smut. Yes, they find each other attractive, ok, let's keep it moving.

Overall, I think I enjoyed this series more than her previous one because I just loved the world so much and the Sins. I really hope we get a lot more because there is just so much left to be told. ...more

While I still love this world that Kerri Maniscalco has created, I didn't love this finale as much as the rest of the series. The readers do get a lot of the answers that we have been craving but the execution felt so messy to me. The first half of the book flowed nicely but the plot goes a little off the rails and becomes a little convoluted. There were times when I was a little confused and times when I wasn't sure why I should care about what was happening. This book should definitely not have been marketed as young adult. There is quite a bit of fairly explicit smut in this book to be classified as young adult. And honestly, it was pretty lackluster and didn't do much for me. From all the hype I was hoping for more. And since we're on the topic, I felt like much of the plot was overcrowded with all the sex. Don't get me wrong, I love smut. But I also like a good plot. Emilia was just sex-crazed throughout the entire book and it became a little tiresome. On top of that, Wrath's character felt very diminished or washed out. It's like from the last book to this one Wrath's character just falls flat. I think that is the most disappointing this about this book for me.

I really liked Vittoria's character development. I still hated her at the beginning of the book but once the plot twists started popping up and opening my eyes I was floored at my change of heart about her.

I felt that the ending was anticlimactic. I felt a little underwhelmed. Everything wrapped up nicely but there was no wow factor and the conclusion didn't really pack a punch. I kept expecting something else to happen that never did.

Overall, this book isn't a total lost cause and I liked some things about it well enough but I was a little disappointed with some things. My expectations may have been too high going into this one. I felt like the characters lost their vibrancy and ultimately fell short. The plot was a little too over the top at times and wasn't the easiest to follow either. Despite being a little let down by this book I still plan on reading the spin-off book. This one is luckily being marketed as adult fantasy and follows Envy's characters so I am reasonably excited.

I FINISHED A SERIES, WHAAAAT. It feels so good, especially such a gorgeous special edition series! I really enjoyed this final instalment, it may be my favourite one of the series! It definitely didn't have the smut levels people made it out to have, and it had a lot more plot than people said, and I really enjoyed it. I liked their relationship, and the ending was awesome. I did get a bit lost during the politics (but again, is anyone surprised) but wrapping something up after such a long time ...more
