"What's the point of having a voice if you're gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn't be?"
This book is going to be super hard for me to review. It's hard to put Angie Thomas's words into a review.
This book tackled so many issues that are hard and sensitive to talk about.
The biggest, of course, is racism. I think this book is important for everyone to read. It's eye opening and very insightful to a huge problem. Sides that many don't get to see.

Starr’s dad said that names are important, and this is so true for her—she definitely shines bright, just like a star, even in the darkness surrounding her. Especially in the darkness. I love that she was able to find her voice through the course of this story—voices are a powerful weapon, as she learns. This was such a heavy and hard read (I had to switch to an audio recording for many chapters), but it’s so worth it.

The message here was beautiful, moving and inspiring. I felt like I got a good feel of the perspective from multiple characters even thought the novel was written in single POV. This came so close to being a 4 star book for me that I actually felt conflicted in settling on 3. However there was just too much I wished I had gotten. The beginning and the end were by far the most impactful and while there were bits in the middle that were powerful it seemed to drag. I really wanted more of Star's ex
