I have waited a really long time before starting this one, and I really didn’t know why… or well… yes, you know? There are so many books and so little time! And there’s always something to demand your attention, and yes, I am really easily distracted and I start a ton of series, but then I am really more slow to finish them. That’s the sad truth! But I’ve finished this series and… wow!

I just couldn't get into this book, and it's very frustrating! I wanted to love this series so much. I have to say with the introduction of some old Grisha characters, it got more enjoyable, but it's such a complex read. All of the plans and blackmail and double-crossing, as well as the multiple POV, I can't get into the story and follow it. I appreciate all of the background the characters have, but it feels too much like Bardugo's trying to force us to like them, and it just isn't happening fo ...more

I really enjoyed Six of Crows and then I read Crooked Kingdom and I think I love it even more? Is that really possible?

This story picks up right where Six of Crows left off, Inej is captured and the crew are trying to save her. From there, the crews journey grows more dangerous as they continue to fight for their lives.

The action throughout this novel was nonstop. Bardugo kept me on my toes as I hoped that the crew would make it out of one scrape and then another. But, may favorite aspect was ...more

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! WHAT THE WHAT WHAT?

What did I just read? There are a couple of things that I'm going to say straight up. The ending, not the biggest fan. I can respect why the ending is the way it is. I understand that there is another book that will come out. But I was hoping for something else. Other than that YES. Note: I tried to avoid spoilers but it also made this review kinda weird... What did I just read? There are a couple of things that I'm going to say straight up. The ending, not the biggest fan. I can respect why the ending is the way it is. I understand that there is another book that will come out. But I was hoping for something else. Other than that YES. YES to this whole book.

The one thing that I really enjoyed about this book was that it got into the back stories of all the characters. I got to see more of what made each of them who are they are today. I especially loved the background on Jesper and Inej. Well I love both of them so that helped but also I feel like I didn't know enough about them in the first book. So I absolutely loved that I got to see these glimpses.

Speaking of glimpses of the past, can we talk abOUT THOSE CAMEOS? I'm not going to reveal who they were, although at this point, I think anyone who has read Shadow and Bone probably has a good idea of who I am talking about but I really loved that Leigh Bardugo chose to throw them in because I really missed one of them. My favorite character from the Shadow and Bone series. The fact that I equated this character to Kaz and then literally got to see them interact with each other. UGH. Dreams do come true. I really liked seeing them come into this world with their perspectives because it really tied the two series together for me. It honestly reminded me a bit of the MCU with all the individual stories but "visits" from other characters.

Since I've already talked about Kaz and Jesper. I want to talk about their relationship. I like what they have going on. I just wish that it had been explored further, not only in the present but also in the past. I can excuse the fact that it wasn't talked about as much in the present of the book because yeah, they got their moment in the clock tower. But you can not get to the clock tower without things happening in the past. My point is that they had to have reached a threshold of trust for them to act like they did in the clock tower and I would have liked to see what job or what event caused them to reach that level of trust. I'm hoping I get that in the next book but honestly I don't know if the next book is even going to feature these characters cause it's "many years down the line."

Which brings me to ending, the only thing that I have left to talk about. Like I said earlier, I am not a huge fan of it. I just wish it would have been a little happier. I feel like some of the characters deserved happier endings than they got, especially given all the crap the six have gone through. You know exactly who I am talking about, Leigh Bardugo, you know the exact scene I am referring to. Another thing about the ending that I did not like was that it was a little too floaty. A little more specificity in what some of the characters did would have been amazing because I want to know if all of them actually managed to "follow their dreams." Also, the big problem wasn't even solved. The whole reason for the heist, the mess after the heist, what came of it? In summary, I didn't think the ending was happy enough and I feel like the problem that needed to be solved hasn't really been solved.

Even though I don't agree with the ending, I can see why it is the ending. I respect it. I think it works, I just want them to be happy cause I love them all so much! Which is why I've given it five stars. Sure I didn't like the ending but it works, even the failure to solve those problems because she isn't done writing about the Grishaverse. I'm sure I'll get my answers sometime in the future. Until then, eat some waffles! ...more
