I have to admit something terrible: I like Lisbeth better on the screen than I do on the page. I think that her transgressive characteristics are too muted in the text, and I like her when the mohawk is tall, and the contempt is unspoken, but clear in her eyes. ***spoilers***: I do like that in the text, she tells Blomkvist that she's going after Martin, rather than asking him, as she does on the screen. Excellent story, a little slow to start but sucked me in and kept me going until the end. I had avoided it believing it was another mainstream Oprah-inspired touching story about nothing. (I love Oprah and think her having a book club is fabulous, but most of the books sound boring.) I'm so glad I was wrong! I learned a lot, too, like the horrible sounding things Swedes apparently eat and that in Sweden, you can schedule jail time and take holidays from it. I did figure out the larger mystery by

I'm sorry, but WHY is this the MUST HAVE book of the season?
I'll give it good writing, interesting chracters, and a suspenseful ending, but...that can describe anything from a Steven King novella to a quasi-good pre-teen yarn.
