I read this immediately after finishing "Gathering Blue" and I read it on the train and might have whispered "JONAS" out loud at one point. This was good in that it ties together the first and the second book together very nicely. I am assuming that when she wrote this she knew there was going to be a fourth book? Because there was some serious lack of resolution for the trade-mart sub-plot otherwise. ...more

Great YA book. Continues where Gathering Blue left off and finds Matty living in another village. Dark times are approaching and Matty is faced with a very important task. Yet another book of Lowry's that serves as a warning about the dangers of mankind.

I'm disappointed. I was excited when I learned that there were sequels to The Giver, but this doesn't live up to it, in my opinion.

Lois Lowry did it again. It was a fascinating read and heartbreaking at the same time. I'm happy I got to read about Jonah and Kira again but sad in losing our healer. Can't wait to read "Son".
