I was told this would be light and fun. By the end, this was exactly as I too saw it to be--my first Georgette Heyer!
The author wrote this in 1950. It belongs to what is known as the Traditional Regency Romance genre, the genre for which the author is famous. Unfortunately I am not a big fan of romance, so this probably wasn't the best pick for me. But one of my groups is reading it so I decided to try. But beyond the fact that this is not the genre for me, I was disappointed in the portrayal of the one Jewish character. Yes, this was published in 1950, and yes we are far more aware today (hopefully) than we were then. However, World War 2 ended in 1945 -- only 5 years before. Shouldn't there have been some consciousness about anti-Semitism?

Funny, cute but the characters were overdone. The stereotypes became old after all while. I'm giving it four stars because it held my curiosity. I wanted to keep reading to see what kind of trouble Sophy would stir up next.
