Some readers have classified this as an horror novel, but I wholeheartedly disagree. Yes, it is dark in the gothic sense, and could be seen as a satire of romance. However, in my opinion this is primarily a philosophical novel. Don't agree? Allow me to demonstrate by noting a few of the questions posed in this book.

I originally marked this as 3 stars because I trudged through it, not really engaged, and picking up a chapter only here and there, and even then only when I was feeling external pressures.
BUT. Even with such a subpar reading experience, this book stuck with me. I found myself thinking about it still months after finishing it and dwelling on the themes?
