What Members Thought
I've recently read about this book so wanted to read it. The character development rings true throughout, though, but being a Victorian novel it's rather long. I'm going to track the movement of the next Victorian novel I read to see if the movement mirrors the slowness of long days in a house waiting for visitors and/or gossip and noticing details of everyday life, or if it includes unnecessary repetition.

Definitely the best book I read during the last several years! I enjoyed every page: the slow developments, lovely characters, and beautiful language. To think, that Elizabeth Gaskell wrote it in hectic circumstances, and had died before completing the last chapter is heartbreaking....
