What Members Thought
This is a terribly hard book for me to rate. It is not one of my favorites, yet it deserves a five for originality and a concise writing style. Borges also uses the surreal and/or fantasy combined with realism , which I love. However, he is heavy handed with philosophy, theology, and the most difficult vocabulary words. He did get better at writing for lowly people like me in Part 2. Or maybe I was just used to his writing by then because he was repetitive with many of his ideas.

Fans of Jorge Luis Borges: You have my admiration. Up to now, my familiarity with South American literature has been limited to Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits, so…not extensive. But there’s nothing like diving into the deep end of the pool to learn how to swim, is there? I decided to dive into Ficciones by Borges to broaden my experience. I thought short stories would be more accessible. How wrong I was!

A collection of “fantasies” about reading or writing. Not my style.
