For once, the story was quite clear to me even though some of the details I reconstructed thanks to Wikipedia. Moreover, it had been a long time since I had read a science fiction book whose plot so deeply involved religion, probably since Hyperion. I imagine there will be a lot to discuss at next week's reading group.

Really liked this book, had a lot of interesting themes and moral questions. I also enjoy a good post apocalyptic novel and a creative vision of the future.

Is this a bit of Catholic apologism re: their control of information and repression of knowledge for hundreds of years in Europe, sure. But outside of that it was a fun book.
