This book had been sitting on my shelf for a long time, with the intention of my reading it. However, time gets away from us, as always. Then my book club chose it and I was thrilled to have a reason to read it outside of my queue.
From page one, this was a delightful story. I couldn't get enough of the characters and wanted to jump inside the pages to spend time with them. The story is told in letter exchanges, which would translate to e-mails in this day and age. It seemed like the mail was re ...more

I've learned a new word! Epistolary! wheeeeee I think I'm not gonna like this one ... I think the EPISTOLARY form is gonna piss me off ....
As it turns out, the epistolary format prevented me from ever really feeling like I was a part of the story. I could not immerse myself in the story when the story was always just being told to me by various letter writers. A fun and easy read since the story's written epistolary form. This made it easy to read on the bus since the letters were short and I didn't have to get involved in a long chapter.
The story's about post-WWII in Guernsey, which was fascinating since I love a good historical fiction, though it make me wonder how accurate the story was.

This epistolary novel tells the story of Juliet, an author, and how she begins exchanging letters with people in Guernsey just after the end of World War 2. Guernsey was occupied by Germany and cut off from the rest of England for much of the war. During this time and due to a pig, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is started and through letters, we learn how it started and more about the people of Guernsey.
I loved the book and warn you that if you're the type who ...more
