I loved this book. All the characters were so well developed and funny! Everyone actually had a personality and it was such a wonderful love story. Even if it was a little predictable...
Although I wasn't sure I would like it at first, I thought the letter format of the book actually almost ended up making the book. It's so interesting that one story could be told completely through a correspondence like that. Letter writing like that is unfortunately really a dying art. I don't even think emails ...more

I've learned a new word! Epistolary! wheeeeee I think I'm not gonna like this one ... I think the EPISTOLARY form is gonna piss me off ....
As it turns out, the epistolary format prevented me from ever really feeling like I was a part of the story. I could not immerse myself in the story when the story was always just being told to me by various letter writers. Additionally, it was very difficult to tell the letter writers apart - sure, at the beginning of each letter it said to: & from: but it ...more

A fun and easy read since the story's written epistolary form. This made it easy to read on the bus since the letters were short and I didn't have to get involved in a long chapter.
The story's about post-WWII in Guernsey, which was fascinating since I love a good historical fiction, though it make me wonder how accurate the story was.

I really liked this book and was quite sad for it to end. Although the book was fiction, it really got me thinking about WWII and how little I know about it. I don't know if any of the book was based on actually facts, but I can't imagine that life on a small island during that time could have been very easy.

Adorable. It's just a really cute story. It's well written, and formatted in all letters. It's very compelling.
It's apparently being made into a movie. I cannot wait to see it. ...more

Loved every minute of this book! Definitely one of my recent top 10s. I fell in love with the characters and was completely fascinated by the story-telling through letters. I want to do it all over again.
This is a lovely book - I'm going to suggest it to my book club for next month! It's a tale told entirely in letters about the effect of the German occupation on a group of residents from the Channel Islands. They're all really wonderful characters. I was a little nervous that it would be hard to follow on audio, since it's in letter form, but the cast of readers did a marvelous job making each letter come to life.

I got about halfway through the book and didn't finish. I just couldn't get into it. There were a lot of characters to keep track of.
