A reread, six years after the first read, and after becoming a fan of the TV series. I reread The Magicians first of course but wasn’t enamoured with the younger Quentin, the focus pretty much on Q. Quentin, now a king of Fillory, is living his dream life in a magical fantasyland, but all he can do is whine and pine for a new adventure. He gets his wish, with Julia along for the ride.
They go on a big adventure—high stakes, lots of action, and some difficult choices. When things don’t work out how Quentin wants them to, he actually demonstrates some personal growth and refrains from complaining (much).
Overall, I liked this better than the first and enough to read on to the third book.

I liked it enough to finish but there were bits I found myself zoning out. By the time I reached the end I couldn't care anymore and couldn't tell you what happened. If you read this book series during any kind of sexual awakening I fear you would become very jaded.
