Meh...I know it's a classic, but honestly--who cares? There were so many things that didn't work for me. Like the characters, for one. Even Ralph, the one we were supposed to be rooting for, kind of blew. I didn't much care if any of them got rescued! And then how did they get there, with no adults? Where were they going, that they didn't already know each other, and no adults managed to live? And how do kids know that fruits are ok to eat? And why aren't there any other animals besides birds an

Here's another book that I read as a young teenager and not again since. I rather think maybe it's not a good book for adults to read, anyway. There is far too much propensity for seeing children and teenagers as incipient savage monsters in our society as it is without encouraging that attitude through literature. On the other hand, I think it's probably a good idea for kids to read this.
