This was a non-fiction story about the sinking of the passenger ship, Lusitania, which was torpedoed by a German submarine. The ship had many American tourists on it and ultimately was one of the reasons the USA entered into World War 1.

4.5 stars. One of the best books I've read this year. Non fiction that reads like a story, a true story, with the tension building, even though you know the ending. Larson is a master at taking the reader right to the places he is writing about: the Lusitania, the U-boat, the British war ministry, Woodrow Wilson's White House. Painstakingly researched, this is a real gem, especially for history buffs.

This book is primarily about the sinking of the Lusitania but the author brings in information about shipping in 1915, the captain of the Lusitania, the code-breaking of Room 40 (British Naval Intelligence), President Wilson's personal life, details about U-Boats, and more. This is the 1st WW1 book I've read that gave me a clear picture of this time and how the US got into the war.
