Sequels aren't always what they're cracked up to be. With The Hunger Games, I was sucked in by both the emotional suspense and the excitement of the Hunger Games themselves. Outside the arena, I couldn't imagine what would hold my interest enough to live up to the Hunger Games. Catching Fire totally did.

I remember when I closed Hunger Games - so many questions running through my head. What will the Capitol do? How will she deal with having both men at home in District 12? What will she do when s

Yes, the Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. The Empire Strikes Back. (Oh, I mean the Capitol.)

This book was fine, but I thought it suffered quite a bit from middle-of-the-trilogy-itis. The characters and plot that were fresh and interesting in the first book were not quite so fresh and interesting this time around (in fact, Katniss was almost getting on my nerves by the end). The ending let readers down with a thud, with tons of dangling loose ends to be resolved in book three (which i

A friend loaned me the series saying that I would really like it. She was right! I don't usually like popular books - they never seem to live up to the hype. In this case, I thought Catching Fire was even better than the first in the series. The action moved along and I wasn't sure what might happen next. The internal struggle and self awareness of the main character were much more clearly expressed. And yes, I even got sucked into the romance. ...more

Read this one in a day (lots of time on my hands) and enjooyed it, but not as much as book 1. Why is the introduction of these futuristic, dystopian worlds so much more entertaining at first? I found it a bit redundant that she had to participate in the games again as well. Looking forward to rebellion in book 3.

Good book, but not quite as good as the first book. The ending was a little weird but flows right into the 3rd one. I like that 'Catching Fire' picks up where the first book left off, and there were certainly unexpected plot twists, but I missed the competition that was the 74th Hunger Games. Many of the characters I liked or hated from the first book returned for the 2nd and the dystopian society that is Panem remains the setting. I just felt the plot was less memorable, but if the 3rd book is ...more

A quality follow-up to the first Hunger Games book. I was definitely sucked into the story and was really irritable when I misplaced the book partway through. I even had a sit-down breakfast on the way to work one morning to finish the book before going to work.

I felt like the characters developed good storylines, but the love triangle felt sort of forced and Katniss didn't mature as much as I would have hoped she would after the first book. That said, I'm looking forward to reading the third o

I read (listened to) the 2nd book in the Hunger Games series in a week and could not stop! Another great book with great plot/storyline! I cannot wait for book 3 to come out (in August!).
