What Members Thought
Excellent writing, but quite depressing. I finished at about 9:30 last night, and was wishing I had finished about two hours earlier, so as to take a long walk and clear my head before bed. As it was, I slept poorly and woke during the middle of the night, unable to get back to sleep for more than two hours.
It was ok. I really couldn't understand what her problem was or where her angst came from. Nothing terrible happened in her life. I expected a book that was full of emotional situations or the like, but nothing really happened. I guess it was a book for it's time but I wouldn't read it again. It just did not grab me, and I am quite disappointed, to be honest.

A semi-autobiographical novel about a young girl's descent into madness and eventual suicide. Plath herself committed suicide not long after the book was written. Disturbing, painful, and hauntingly beautiful.

If I had read this as a fifteen year old girl I might have really identified with the main character. The imagery was beautiful but the story didn't grab me.
