Afghanistan.
It has been a long journey reading books - different genres and different countries. Call me biased but this tops my list.
Khaled Hosseini in what is a part memoir/part fiction talks about his childhood in Afghanistan. He draw the premise and events in the book from his own experience, but the story of the little boy in the book is fiction.
