At the end of A Feast for Crows, GRRM excitedly warned readers that it and the subsequent A Dance With Dragons were actually a single book, separated due to length. He promised that missing characters would be present in Dragons and that the stories would catch up and proceed onwards. For this reason, I will often be referring back to Crows.

★★★½ I can’t believe I’m rating this book the same as AFfC, but it doesn’t deserve four stars, IMHO. Maybe I should lower AFfC to just an even three. Why so low for ADwD?
First: I didn’t like the layout of these two books, but that was GRRM’s decision, not mine. The timeline was too discombobulated with book #4 and book #5 really being one gigantic book – with basically opposing sides presented in each volume. I feel like you can't trust certain things in this series, mostly when people die. I seem to be shocked at certain deaths, get mad at the author, and then they are back and I am not sure how I feel about that. Sometimes they are so changed that death would have been better.
A lot of the characters try so hard to do the right thing, but then are manipulated into doing other things. If they would listen to their first thoughts things would be so much better.
