I absolutely adore this family! There's so much heart, and love and loyalty among them that makes them irresistible.

This book is like an updated version of Cinderella without the glass slippers.

Sophie Beckett, an illegitimate child of an earl, has always yearned for family and love. The earl never shown her any affection even though he had accepted her into his care. When the earl remarried, Sophie hoped that she would gain a stepmother and stepsisters. That however, wasn't the case. After the I absolutely adore this family! There's so much heart, and love and loyalty among them that makes them irresistible.

When the earl remarried, Sophie hoped that she would gain a stepmother and stepsisters. That however, wasn't the case. After the death of the earl, Sophie was relegated to tasks of a servant, and at times, duties enough for three servants. One night, she wanted to pretend that she wasn't a servant and attended Lady Bridgerton's masquerade ball. It was there that she met the man of her dreams, none other than Benedict Bridgerton himself, the most eligible bachelor in London high society.

All Benedict wanted to do was to escape to a quiet study away from the noise and the mamas and their marriageable daughters. Until his mother requested that he have one dance with Penelope Featherington, who's usually a wallflower at these events. He was on his way to do just that until he felt a sensation. Responding to this sensation, he turned and met the lady in silver. From this moment on, both their lives changed.

Like Cinderella, Sophie had to be home by midnight, and when she disappeared without divulging her identity, she left Benedict searching for the lady in silver for years to come.

Their paths cross again, and although Benedict doesn't recognize her, Sophie remembers him all too well and the things he made her feel.

What I love about this story is that Benedict falls for both versions of Sophie, without realizing she's one and the same. He does have a very un-gentlemanly moment when he blackmails her but he more than made up for it once he realizes he doesn't care what the gossipers will say about him and the housemaid.

The other enjoyable moments in this book involved Lady Bridgerton going toe to toe with Sophie's stepmother/slavedriver. Who really surprised me though is Posy. I hope there's some sort of update about her in upcoming book(s). I also loved seeing more of the younger Bridgerton siblings interact here, especially Hyacinth. She's a hoot.

I'm leaning more towards one person for the identity of Lady Whistledown, so hoping it'll be revealed soon to see if I'm right.

And I'm ready to jump directly into Colin and Penelope's book after the awkward scene in this one! Poor Penelope, I wanted to hug her. ...more

Julia Quinn's language and word style are unmistakable. The plot about the love of Sophie and Benedict is written in the style of a Cinderella story. Nevertheless, the story has its own independence and shine. The plot takes place around 1817 and offers the reader an impressive and soulful glimpse into life at that time.

A true Cinderella story. Sophie sneaks into Benedict Bridgerton's ball with a mask and everything. Never expecting to meet Benedict and she definitely never expected to fall for Benedict. She just hoped for a magical night before she had to get back to her real Cinderella life at Midnight. Her stepmom figures things out and kicks Sophie out. Here I am on book three of the Bridgerton series and still loving the characters, the stories, and the romances. An Offer From a Gentleman is a variation of the Cinderella fairy tale for adults. Sophie Becket loved her father even though he never recognized her officially. When he remarried, she didn’t understand how her father allowed his new wife to treat her so badly. Then when her father dies, Sophie is relegated to the role of servant. I love all the characters both good and bad. It goes without saying that the Bridgerton family is a solid rock of support for one another. Benedict is a good guy even if he is a little “dickish” for a while. He is a man of the time and didn’t know how to reconcile his feelings with the need to remember his place in society. Sophie is a strong, feisty, independent woman who I could easily relate to. She tried to please her family even though they treated her badly.

The evil stepmother and stepsisters are nicely developed with the wickedness one would expect. Posy isn’t really a bad person, but her mother insists that she get on board regarding Sophie. The other stepsister is as horrible as her mother. Araminta, the evil stepmother does a lot of vindictive things to Sophie simply because her father loved her.

When I was reading this part of the story, Disney’s Work Song ran through my head.

Cinderella, Cinderella night and day its Cinderella.
Cinderella make that fire, fix the breakfast, do the dishes, do the mopping...
Love it!

Victoria, Mrs. Bridgerton, is the exact opposite of Araminta. She loves her children and wants them happy. We can count on her to take the evil stepmother in hand and deal her a blow that she won’t soon forget. Victoria is my favorite recurring character. What a mom!

I love fairy tales. I always have. I especially love the adult twists on fairy tales. This one is a lot of fun with good humor and not as predictable as it could be. It is a sweet, light read or listen depending on your favorite book format. If you are an audio lover; Rosalyn Landor is a wonderful narrator who puts her all into the performance. Superb!

Finally, the second epilogue is one of the best so far. Its focus is Posy and a great addition to the series. I will read more of this series as soon as I can.
