When a mummified corpse found in a museum turns out to be a recent murder victim, Rizzoli and Isles are thrown into the world of archaeology and the process of mummifying a body. This was probably my favorite Rizzoli and Isles book so far. There is so much interesting information. I very well researched book. Rizzoli is still dealing with her parents divorce and Isles is still in love with someone she can't have, but they aren't the main focus of the book, which I find to be a good thing. The st

I think it is really necessary to read these books in order as Ms. Gerritsen talks of the past and past people that keep appearing. The Mephisto Club was mentioned in this book as well as one of the participants in this group. It seems Mr. Sansome is really connected to the police department and likes to be around Maura Isles.

Medical Examiner Maura Isles is happy she received an invitation to view the CT scan of a well preserved mummy that was found in the basement of a local museum. But she is shocked to find the mummy has modern dental work and a bullet in her leg. Detectives Jane Rizzoli and Barry Frost are called in to investigate the murder. They soon find the remains of another woman in the museum. When a third body is found in the trunk of Archaeologist Josephine Pulcillo's car, she knows that the killer has f

An intriguing mystery with some interesting twists and turns. I especially enjoyed the archeological and scientific details including the processes of mummification, bog bodies and shrunken heads.
Maybe 4.5 stars.
One of the "subjects" under study was produced by a method I figured out in advance; I had seen something at the British Museum several years ago and the description in this Rizzoli & Isles book caused my mind to leap to the right conclusion!
Another reviewer mentioned she would like to be kept up to date with both Rizzoli's and Isles' personal lives in each edition of this series; I suppose I would also like that, but the spotlight did shine on Rizzoli's partner and somewhat less ...more

"For untold years, the perfectly preserved mummy had lain forgotten in the dusty basement of Boston's Crispin Museum. Now its sudden rediscovery by museum staff is both a major coup and an attention-grabbing mystery. Dubbed 'Madam X,' the mummy'"to all appearances, an ancient Egyptian artifact'"seems a ghoulish godsend for the financially struggling institution. This was one of Tess Gerritsen's better books. It was hard to put down. I found my self convinced that one person was the culprit and then just as quickly I had another suspect. There is a tremendous sense of urgency and suspense that make this book a real page-turner.
