This book was a revelation. I had not read Nadine Gordimer before and will be picking up her other works. The novel tells the story of a young White woman growing up in apartheid South Africa. She is the daughter of anti-apartheid activists and while the book exposes the brutality of that system, it is really a novel about the search for identity by a person about whom all things are presumed.
