This book bogged down the storytelling in the series so far. However, there's much that we learn about some of the main characters that I gave it 5 stars anyway. I'm going to take a break from the series and pick up Volume V in a few months. ...more

I had planned to finish up Proust this year, but I think I need to take a break. Somehow, this world in which his narrator lives is really starting to grate on me, the characters that populate the book are almost all irritating, and their social lives are tedious.

Things that bored me about this book:
1. Pages and pages of etymologies of places and names, which don't translate very well, and which bore even the characters in the book. I struggled not to skim these sections. "I had found the -fleu
