This is historical fiction based on the 1947-8 Dakar-Niger railway strike. It is a really powerful read, showing the strength and conviction of these workers, and the women who supported them. There a lot of characters, and the book follows many individual stories in addition to the overall theme. The writing is very strong, and the story moves along. This book is one of the not well known hidden gems that everyone should read.
